Kourion Beach is another amazing beach.

Across from the ancient ruins is the beautiful Kourion Beach.  We spent much of our afternoon here enjoying the water, the beach front, the food, and the amazing setting.  As you can see, we weren't alone.Posted by Picasa

Ancient Kourion

An example of the ruins still standing in ancient Kourion.  These columns were built B.C.

A house in Pissouri with a heavenly view of blue sea and sky extending seemingly forever.

This is one of the smaller homes with a sumptuous view of the Mediterranean.  Note the backyard in ground swimming pool, as well.  I am standing in a neighboring vacant lot. We saw community after community of recent or new construction like this home built in this resort area along the sea.

Views that defy adjectives ...

This a home owner's idyllic backyard view of the Mediterranean.

These are massive rock formations!

My friend, the stone sea horse, frolicks in the distance. Actually, people commonly swim out and crawl onto his back.

Life on Aphrodite's beach is attracting fans.

It's Saturday and life on the beach is inviting.  As you can see, the pebbles from the rock walls commonly yield to a sandy shoreline.Posted by Picasa

Curious rock formation.

To me these rocks looked like a giant sea horse playing in the water.Posted by Picasa

Graceful majesty meets blue, blue sea.

To gain some perspective, you can see a family on the beach and some people swimming by the rocks.Posted by Picasa

A truly iradescent blue sea

The bright sun striking the crystal, blue water creates colors that overwhelm you with their clarity and beauty.Posted by Picasa

The Mediterranean is so blue and so clear ...

From on high, you witness the beauty of sea converging against stone.  The water is actually so clear that you can see down to the bottom of the sea for quite a distance.Posted by Picasa

Closer to Aphrodite's Rock & Beach

A closer view allows you to see people walking along the beach.Posted by Picasa

Aphrodite's Rock & Beach on the horizon

On Saturday, we drove to Aprodite's Rock & Beach, where legend has it Aphrodite, the ancient patron goddess of Cyprus,  rose out of the Sea.  We were mezmerized by the colors of the blue Mediterranean water against the white rock and grey sand shoreline.  Since I evidently could not stop shooting photos, it was truly a hypnotic experience.Posted by Picasa

Upon entry, the kitchen fireplace beckons.

Entering the kitchen from the balcony, you are attracted by the inviting comfort of the home.

Mary Jane entering from the patio and surveying the kitchen.

As nice as the kitchen is, we typically sit down to all of our meals out on the patio.Posted by Picasa

Heaven's bath ...

If you cannot luxuriate in this bathtub, you will never relax.  The natural decor is heavenly and, oh so soothing!Posted by Picasa

More perspective to the living room

Adjoining the living room fireplace, the wall is bedecked with the natural stone from the hillside into which the house is carved.Posted by Picasa

Inside our bit of paradise ...

Here is a view of the living room fireplace.Posted by Picasa

Sunrise in a postcard.

Every morning, we awaken to this view from our bed.  We usually rise early to sit on the patio or balcony, watch the sunrise, and sip coffee while the village roosters seranade.

Homeward bound!

You can see the house with its balcony in the upper right of this photo and the village church is visible to the lower left.

This is remote living, far beyond suburbia.

Beyond the roads, high up in the hills, you see beautiful new homes,  One is located on top of a hill in the upper center and another is to its right in this photo.  Apparently, these homes were built on family plots.  The objective must either be a love of the land, the family heirloom, or pursuit of virtual isolation.Posted by Picasa

Looking down at the church of St. Marina and the village.

From further up the hillside, you can see the vllage of Kalo Chorio with the church in the center serenely nestled within the landscape.

The local church, Ayia Marina or St. Marina

The home that we occupy is uphill to the far right of the church which is a prominent building in the village.Posted by Picasa

Old passageway through the village

Here is an example of the surviving village heritage. This is a village passageway constructed under local houses to access the church; it also provides cool shade to the friendly pets.

Heading back to sea.

At this beach, the water is clear, shallow and sandy, perfect for kids to play. At low tide, an adult can walk to the platform in front of the sailboat.
